Hi guys.

Trying to help a friend out he bought a 1275 auto sprite L reg for him and his daughter to share. Paid a good amount for it but 2weekes after buying the auto gear box has packed up. Now I've adviced to change to a manual.
Due to it being a 1275 with only 54000miles on the clock it would
be bice to use it but I have a feeling that the auto engine won't mate to a manual box.
What bits will we need to take the engine off the box and replace with a manual?

Thanks

Is the auto box fault serious ???

ie, why not fix it.....

There are other issues to swap a manual lump into an auto car, ie subframe engine mount points different so you either need spacers or special mounts or the subframe completely swapping and the wiring is slightly different too.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

Not forgetting gear linkage and pedal box.
Id say take a gander at the auto box... How hard can it be?

Just out of interest, how strong is the auto box? Anyone turbo'd an auto?

i remeber an article in either minimag or mini world, where 2 mates both with autos tuned them to the death trying to have the fastest auto, both ended with fully worked 1380's pushing over 100bhp before the boxs gave up

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

You will struggle to get the auto box to take much over 80lbft of torque before the clutch bands start to slip. You can uprate the auto box slightly but there are few people out there that know how to work the black magic, and you need a rack of special tools. The only person I can think of is not exactly a TurboMinis freindly member, as he seems to think that everyone is copying his butt plugs. I do know another chap that can rebuild the autto box and built a 1380 auto ADO16, hence why I know roughly where the auto box cries for help

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...
