There is more than one box used, ie, the "original" design which is quite shallow and the one Jason (on this forum) makes (and has been copied by others) which is deeper and probably many others inbetween, especially home made ones.

Here's a typical one (mine) showing where the clearance is needed especially downwards and the extra angle on the passenger side.

the angle on the cross member on the right hand side of Rods pic is needed to make life easyer.... my angle is too small and gatting anything onto the turbo ( air filter) is almost impossible Yes i moved to the darkside |

lee, you have plenty of space at the crossmember height. but i would say not enough beneeth that.
