As you know my cars not been on the road for the last 18months after it was used in the minifilms dvd

Finally got my finger out and stripped the engine

Seems there alot of terminal damage that to my mind revolves around the thrusts, the thrusts are non existant totally dissolved crank has scored the block and every bearing is knackered

I think i will be using an RTS and some of Carls modded thrusts next rebuild

I can get some more pics if anyone want i had the compact camera with no macro with me so there shite

To be honest if you have one I don't think you will need the other :)

I'm still weary of crank taper damage on the RTS clutches. I rember seeing Matty having a hard time getting his flywheel of the crank and the taper not being great afterwartds.

At least with the oil fed thrusts it's some protection, not sure what you could do to protect the crank taper *oh well*

one of the inserts into the flywheel the taper,

did it happen slowly or could you notice it going? i would have thought that much movement would stop the clutch from disengaging, never mind the crank loving up the block

I THINK ive got to the bottom of the taper problems. My damper pulley bolt came loose causing excessive vibration, so much so it has cracked the damper puller along the keyway and fucked my spacer I made up that goes over the crank. Ive now replaced the damper pulley and im now using the minispares extended cap head bolt. Fingers crossed it'll be ok now. *oh well*

Colin has had TurboHarry fit some brass brushes in his hubs, incase of any vibration.

Carl it was driving fine before curbough the revs would drop slightly when pushing the clutch down not significently like others have said, i put this down to a strong pressure plate

The only assumption i have is that at 7k the damage racks up quick apart from that i dont know its never happened to me before, the oil pressure dropped and Bill shut it off straight away he did everything he could have

Car being used 10mins before its developed the big end knock

Yep, I went for the bronze bush in the taper to limit the damage to the crank, but does not mean that the bronze bush wont get damaged. I think balance needs to be as close to perfect as you can get, and a good condition damper, but, it will still fret on high rpm engines I think. And im not convinced about lapping in the taper being such a good thing

I'm laping with fine paste all my flywheels, then a good hamer push with a bronze two time on the flywheel bolt, a bit barbare but untill now it's working, you feel on the torque wrench that this make a big difference.

akirch, although i'm sure that Austin bloke would oblige.

I've had good results from putting the flywheel on hot ala TD.
