I've got a brand new cross pin diff and I'm struggling to strip it down to fit the gears. I've removed the hex head bolt and managed to move the pin out a little bit as needed, but it is nowhere near as easy as the instructions would have me believe. Getting the pin out the first bit took a good amount of force, and there just seems to be no way I can grip the pin hard enough to pull out. The instructions say the pin is a slide fit, and not to use excessive pressure, but there is no way it is going to slide out easily. Is there some knack to it that I am missing?

The secret is to use something like a 4mm long punch and insert it into the hole the other end of the short pin (the center block and pin) and gently punch out the short pin As long as the retaining bolt is removed. Anything more than a light tap and something is binding.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Thanks sprocket, I've now got the first pin out. If the bloody instructions had said that I would have had the diff built up now. Another waste of time because of shite instructions *angry* Why do they tell you to fuck about with pliers when you can just use a punch and knock it cleanly out. Arseholes!

Lol, I only worked it out after taking hours in the same vein as pretty much every person who builds one of their diffs for the first time. I basicaly asked myself the question as to why there was a hole though the middle of the center shaft, and after a little thought (make that a ureka moment while lying in bed *hehe!* ) it is for dissasembly

I did notice the hole but didn't give it much thought as I was heeding the warning about incorrect disassembly. It's a good job I didn't start whacking the shit out of the pin that goes right through the middle *hehe!*
