Somewhere around Swindon

Watched the car is reborn tonight where there rebuilding an E Type

When they refitted the Jag het they used a coated gasket like the bk450 and used wellseal on both sides

Anyone seen that practice before?

Cant do any harm IMO.

I always use a slather of grease each side, to help the gasket settle.

Wellseal can be a sod to get off afterwards tho,

i wouldnt, i have used wellseal when experimenting with shims on my engine, and it does work, but a gasket should only mate to clean flat surfaces imho :)

IMO coated gaskets (like the BK450) should only ever go on clean dry surfaces.

Otherwise, how is the coating supposed to work ???

I clean both surfaces with acetone (cellulose thinners) to make sure they are dry and grease-free before installing that type of gasket.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???
