I was up at 7this morning to make sure my mini was ready for the big journey. The only problem was a slightly blowing manifold gasket - I thought I could live with it so I left at 8am sharp.

Got about 20 miles up the a5 and I had noticed a cloud of smoke begining to follow me.... Once I stopped oily smoked started coming out round the bonnet - so I pulled over and had a look.

My rocker cover gasket had completely failed.....once I took off the rocker cover it was very burnt round the back from the blowing maniold gasket. I cleaned the excess oil up and stuck down the gasket with some blue sealent and tried to head home (to fit a spare)

As I was driving the smoke was increasing,, then my brakes decided to start pulling to the right. I stopped and found it was due to the passenger brake being covered in OIL. OIL was fucking everywhere from the rocker gasket.

I decided to give up and planned on parking up in a local cafe just 200yards down the road from where i was stopped, I was nursing the car down the road slowely due to my shafted brakes then with a bump and a splutter my engine started running like a bag of shit - I managed to get in and parked up and wait for my kind hearted father to save me!

Anywho - got home, my dad reconed it was not firing on all cylinders so we got the compression tester out. 1,2 and 4 are identical but 3 has no compression at all - does not even make the gauge twitch. Took the rocker cover off to make sure the valves were opening and round that the exhaust valve tapped was open by about 1cm. However it was NOT loose.

Im guessing this is a bent valve....??

I have had enough, does anyone have a bog standard metro turbo engine for sale, the high performance engine I have has given me too many problems now. *angry*

Could it be that it has lost so much oil with the leak that it has run very hot in the head and the guide has pinched the valve? Have seen this happen before, just change the valve and ream the guide to size and you're back in business.

I had a similar problem when mine was N/A, One of the unleaded seats had decided to pop out and stop the exhaust valve from closing.

hmmm, im back in Coventry now and my car is in Milton Keynes, maybe ill be in the mood to fix it when I go back in a month or so.

The engine spec is as follows:

Mint - watercooled T25 turbo on mirage manifolds
15cc Forged Omega Pistons on lighten balanced and shot peaned rods
Chemically cleaned 1275 block bored +20 With vizard mods to water pump, brand new oil pump, centre main strap
Standard metro turbo crank
Pre verto clutch, grey diaphram, race/ralley friction plate
Tran - X strait cut box and drops, 3.44 diff with uprated pin.
MED t3 cam, 1.5 roller rockers, duplex adjustable timing
MED high boost head, 28.5cc chambers, fullly ported and large stainless steel valves (cant remember what size)
ARP head studs

Engine and box have nearly 1000 miles on them, thats All.

If someone makes me a very big offer they can have it, otherwise ill attempt to repair it next time im home.....depending how i feel.

Fully restored 1989 racing green, a few new pannels and full strip back to metal and respray.

Completly solid NO RUST

Genuin W+P Arches, 12*6 minilights with yoko 539's

Fully adjustable lower arms, tie bars, rear camber and tracking brackets,

Seam welded front subframe, front and rear frames all poly bushed,

maniflow turbo exhaust with 3" tail pipe*laughing*

Standard inside apart from a boost and oil pressure gauge.


Passenger side is a bit oily tho..... Stupid fan blowing oily smoke from my engine down the side of my car....*oh well*

i agree with above! dont sell you will regret it!
mine aint even started and i wouldnt sell it! gonna keep a mini hopefully for the rest of my days!(just need a garage!) i regret not doing the turbo mini when 1st passed my test!(would have been mint!)

I made it there wiht no problems, so far my turbo mini has never broke down, it only brakes down when i do something wrong when working on the engine or bodge! Ah well im still learning, ill put all the photos up later on today.
