Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of the rules & regulations regarding exporting a car to the US?

If it helps the car in question is a 1275 MG Midget first registered in Jan 1971.

Cheers

The main thing is they have to be older than 25. I brought mine over here 8 years ago. Got it put in a container in the UK and got it out over here. Just check about all the taxes and duties.

Same here, mine came in a container. As long as its over 25 years old theres no problems. Import duties are nowt compared to the other way (2%??) I think that gets paid as part of the shipping. Then all it needs is Registration and taxes in the State its ending up at.. I just took mine down to the State testing station with a bill of sale and the UK documents and was done in an hour.

As a 71 it will need to pass emmisions testing but they are not very tough for that year. (testing started in 68) most well tuned cars can pass those early years and there are usually ways to get a waiver if you cant pass. California may be a different matter though....

Or here in PA you can register it as an antique and never need to get it inspected, and a one off registration fee. All I pay now is for insurance.
