I was going to use the Metro one but it's size, viewed from above, and mounting lugs are all wrong for where I have to fit it.

(basically the fuel injection plenum and my design of brace bar mounted high up mean I can't put it the way around that would put pipes and mounting lugs in the right place).

Ideally I want a square tank with feed out the bottom and expansion in the side at the top and no taller than the Metro one. Second choice would be cylindrical.

All the generic ones on eBay and from the usual tuning companies are cylindrical aluminium and with loads of unneccissary connections. I want translucent plastic.

The closest I have found so far searching pictures on eBay is from a variety of Peugeot 206 models which are reasonably common.

example

Trying to judge scale from the various photos though, I think it might be too tall.

Anyone found a better solution ???

Ebay special:

Mounts nicely on the front of the bulk head where the triangulation plate is.

Thanks Andy, seen them.

It fails my criteria of translucent plastic and no unneccissary connections (the one just under the old fashioned expansion cap).

Because of that unneccissary connection and the old fashioned cap it wouldn't be possible to mount it high enough on the triangular plate (or anywhere for that matter) to have the water level higher than the top of the thermostat housing. If the water level is lower than the top of the thermostat housing the system won't work properly as vapour locks will be created in the thermostat housing which will restrict, or even stop, flow through the radiator.

I'm already at a disadvantage as my thermostat housing is 25mm higher than standard because of needing a sandwich plate for the extra temperature sender for the ECU.

So I need something like the Metro one where the vapour connection is right at the top and the neck and cap is very low profile. The Peugeot one is good in that respect but looks a bit too tall overall.

I've got stacks of metro ones if you get stuck.

Sounds like you need to have a walk round a couple of breakers yards.

EDIT: They fit and work properly in clubman fronts.

I'm OK for Metro ones thanks, just can't quite make it fit.

I was trawling pictures on eBay to avoid tramping around breakers yards :)

Having the tank water level higher than the top of the thermostat housing is technically how it should be - I don't doubt you and others will have it working with a lower level but I'm aiming to get it higher if at all possible :)

EDIT - was typing before I saw that second piccy - I'll give that a try but I'm sure the wiper motor prevents it.... is the triangular plate in a different position in a genuine clubby ???

Thanks for the photos Andy, but no - it can't fit like that on a roundose bulkhead/triangular plate/inner wing.

The plate on a roundnose is taller, a steeper angle and (along with the inner wing itself) further in.

It moves the tank ~80mm inwards compared to your photo which (a) hits my fuel rail and (b) bends the connection stub hose to the bottom hose enough to kink it.....

I really need something that mounts on the front of the triangular plate and has a low enough stub/cap to get the water level where I want it.

But thanks for the photos anyway.

Thanks Denis, that may be possible.

I found three piccys on eBay - again, hard to judge size - being spherical it's large in diameter where I don't want it to be although the headroom is good.

I've put a "best offer" in on one of the Peugeot ones on eBay - if I get it it will give me a better idea.

I'll grab you an O/D measurment if you wish, but they are pretty bulky and hard to package cause of the round shape..

Thank's Denis, I thought they would be pretty bulky becuase of the shape - hence my preference for square or cylindrical.

But I'd still be interested if you can measure one then I can post dimensions of all the options (so far) in case anyone else is having the same trouble as me :)

There is a company who trade via e bay called alloy race fabrications, they made me a fuel tank for a very reaonable price, they do header tanks etc too, maybe worth a search?

Thanks for the offer Mike, I'm waiting for the Peugeot one to arrive to see if that will fit first.

Mike, how much are you selling yours for? What size is the outlet in the bottom of the tank?

Cheers

Well, the Peugeot one arrived today, and guess what....

Broken on the vent connection.

It is bigger than ideal but I "may" be able to make one fit - perfect in configuration, mounting etc., just about twice the size I want.

Just to make my day I got this too,

I think the empty envelope should have had the special heat protection sleeve I need for the turbo oil feed where it runs close to my dual wideband sensor tubes....

Why the idiot put it in a normal envelope rather than a Jiffy bag is beyond me.
