As part of yet another of my madcap schemes I will soon be changing the engine in a 306..........

I am basically wondering if anyone in the Sheffield kind of area has an engine crane they would be willing to hire / lend me for a few days in a week or so time?

Obviously I would come and pick it up/bring it back and give you some beer vouchers?

I cant help, but plenty of companies rent them out for about ?30/weekend.

im gonna invest in a machine mart one when me engine goes back in i think there pretty cheap fo the smaller one they do and i suppose ill have end up having the engine in and out quite a few times

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

You wannt see how much they are (or rather are not) over here!

One thing that is good about this country!!!

If i were you, i'd check out ebay - there's bound to be someone importing them from here in the USA - and selling for a lot cheaper than machine mart...

you can borrow mine for as long as needed , but its up here !!!

I've got a crane over at my Dads in Grimsby. Was planning to bring it over to Doncaster soon but hadn't decided exactly when.

Busy this weekend, but could nip across one evening if that's any good?

In case anyone is interested in my madcap plan.....I recently bought a Peugeot 306 diesel for ?100......then found a 306 diesel turbo engine and gearbox on ebay for ?110......and also have an assortment of 205 and 306 GTi parts kicking about.......has anyone guessed yet I wonder?!

have block and tackle 4 u tom

yes your going to build a 306Dturbo with a hopelessly short ratio 'box so you can wheelspin lots and deliver pizza's to fund your mini.

Machine mart ones for about ?130 are a cracking bit of kit thats the 1 tonne folding ones.
If you get stuck ive got one you can borrow.

I have thought about buying my own crane, my dad has a machine mart one and it is good, only trouble is that it is 100 miles away. Also I have a single garage and for the amount I would use a crane (e.g. seldomly) it seems a lot of space to sacrifice to store it.

However I am currently looking at houses to buy and I am also handyish at a spot of building so watch this space...............

they nippy them diesel turbos tom, my mate from work has 1, are you modifying the engine to make it go faster mate or just leaving it standard when it goes in?

Will leave it standard I think. Have got a Xsara VTS and a 205 GTi Mi16 if I want to go fast so the 306 is more of an economy car! The only reason I am going to use 306 and 205 GTi parts to finish it off is that I have them kicking around and so they will save me spending money unnecessarily. 306 GTI-6 front legs and driveshafts to handle torque and hopefully make it handle a bit better, and then 205 GTI vented brakes to make it stop.

Apart from that I think I might swap the intercooler for a front mounted one out of a Xantia but that will be about it.

At the moment it will owe me ?210 which includes buying the car and also the engine assy. Hopefully if I am careful I think I should be able to get it up and running for ?350, I reckon at that it will be a bargain runabout.
