righto, had to give up on this tonight after much head scratching, anyone know how to get the boss off?

Ive only ever removed the viscous coupling off my e30, I just had the car on all fours, in gear and undid the bolt which held it to the water pump, from memory was itro 36mm and there was a specific slim spanner for the job, hope this helps.

theres no belt on it at present, so unfortunately not an option :(

ah, alas, my fan is a different design, and the fan blades mount the boss from the rear (engine) side, so the boss is sandwiching them on.

You need a thin spanner if its the smiley faced Tranny with 2.5 di lump. Air chisel or a blunt chisel & hammer normally does the trick. :)
