Anyone know how high the oil level might get in the tappet chests during normal running?

Cheers

I would have thought not very high, probably just a spattering/layer (unless there is something wrong)

there are the two big holes for the oil to drain thorough, and not that much comes out of the rockers.

I would think that the non holed ones would be almost completely full. I cannot see why not.

The tappet chests V, not the tappets.

I presumed that the level would be minimal. Its juat that my bodged up breather seems to be leaking oil, but it seems strange that so much oil is getting in it.

cheers

Maybe re-examine your "bodged up breather" and make sure the breather pipe goes up at least 200mm before it goes anywhere else - its amazing how far that little bit of oil can get if its not encouraged to stay where you want it to.

Has the "bodged up breather" got a splash guard over the hole on the inside of the tappet chest cover plate ???

I've seen factory ones with and without but I don't suppose the ones without matter too much on the standard 30HP engine.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???
