I'm off to the USA again soon and I've a few things I'm bringing back.

I've done it before with things such as the AEM gauges, these were small and light enough to go in a case without issue.

However this time I'm looking like bringing a clutch back for my 205.

Now does anyone know how I stand regarding customs etc? Obviously a big metal plate it going to stand out somewhat in the x ray machines.

Should be ok if it's in a box that identifies what it is and you check it into the hold.

I brought back a kitchen aid ice cream maker which is a large plastic bowl with a metal liner and is filled with liquid. I would imgaine it looked very bad on an x-ray. When I collected my bag it had been searched but there were no problems.

As Carl says just throw it in your case.

I brought back 3 inlet manifolds a loads of Carb parts plus a whole cam kit.

No bother from anyone.

Just don't put them in your hand luggage.

I flow out of LAX and into Heathrow no probs.

My sister is going back out to San Diego soon with another shopping list for me.. *wink*

as long as you take it out they don't care (or used to anyway): I've taken a GM transmission torque converter and Corvette heads and manifolds on the plane back on the same flight. The TC simply got a sticker "Heavy" on the box:)

Done it both ways, one time I had a 32Kg case of parts, brake disks, shocks etc...

As they said always put it in in checked luggage and as you check it in tell them whats in there, that it may look funky on x-ray and show them if needed.. they may send you to a special area to have it x-rayed there and then (rather than put it on the belt right away) but its never been a problem, just a bit more time needed.

But remember that most flights have a 23Kg single bag limit nowadays and they stuff you for extra bags and even worse if its overweight... unless of course you are going Business or First class you flash git..

When I moved back from the States I had 5 boxes of stuff which were around 2 1/2ft in all directions. Think I paid about $600 to have them put in the cargo hold as oversized excess luggage. They were X-rayed in another area of the checkin bit of the airport, no problems there and no problems at the other end *happy*

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

I wouldnt worry at all Tom. I used to fly all over the world with dodgy looking items in my bags (spare parts for turbines etc) and not once did i get asked for the customs cert that i had with them. (basically a receipt).

Work sent me with Ryanair once to Italy, the excess luggage for the outward journey was £600 *happy* 3x the cost of the flight, that taught them. I fly back with KLM and didnt get charged a penny sincen I have a miles card.
