with a flywheel puller. I'd guess the big oil seal around the gear on the end of the crank

+1. if the clutch plate has oil on it its skip fodder and has to come of anyway. Its an arse of a job but the only way to get at the seal.

NO, you need a proper flywheel puller.

You could register on one of the other Mini forums where someone would probably tell you to hit it with a 7lb lump hammer from the back through the starter motor hole, but most of us over here like to keep our flywheels in one piece and our crankshafts straight :)

A large socket to undo the flywheel bolt (is it verto or pre-verto as the sizes are different ???) and a torque wrench to re-do that bolt to the correct torque afterwards.

Otherwise, nothing special - there is a special tool available to remove the primary gear oil seal (which is where your leak will most likely be) and a special sleeve to slide the new one over the splines but these are not essential and can easily be improvised.

Otherwise normal tools.

That's the correct puller, but they are cheaper than that at halfrauds (cheaper than minispares infact)

You also need to find a way to lock the flywheel so that it doesn't rotate while you are trying to undo the nut. I usually use an old mains bearing in the starter hole sat against the ring gear

The Oil could also be a result of worn Primary Gear Bushes........

You do not have to skip the clutch plate. Get yourself a blow torch and sweat the oil out of the clutch. The second you start to heat the friction material the oil will begin to sweat out. Wipe the oil away and keep sweating the friction material until there is no more sign of oil

I have recieved much thanks in the past from customers considering replacing clutches for this very reason. The most powerfull motor I did this for was putting out 220bhp the owner was chuffed to bits.
