T4 VW Transporter has a good following and less likely to be rusty like the equivalent transit at that money.

ford connect van matey our recovery agent uses them all the time to collect bikes... you could get two Moto x bikes in and a tool kit, plus a few Jerry cans... good motors too !

One thing worth thinking about is insurance. Alot of companies seem to be charging a small fortune or avoiding to insurance a commercial vehicle for private/domestic use. I found alot of high performance cars work out cheaper for me to insure than my transit!

Keith Timpson had that issue if I recall correctly with his T5 - his premiums were more than what he was paying for his S4

If you are having a van as your only vehicle think carefully about going too big as it will make lots of places you might go in a car an arse to get in to etc.
I quite like the Peugeot Expert/Citroen Dispatch vans. Or I've hired a Transit Connect and was also impressed with that.
Any of the above are small enough and low enough to get into carparks etc.

Camper in not commercial use. Cheaper than van equivalent for ferries crossings, despite being the same size.........
Not sure if campers fall under the same charges around London than vans?

get a well serviced toyota hiace these are absolutly bomb proof (if been serviced correctly or your incredibly unlucky) only down side is there a bit heavy on juice.

ive got a scuddy old vwT4 ive turned into a camper and altho its a n/a 1.9 diesel with either a blown head gasket or a cracked head i love it lol. but there are far to many accseories available for them so you will end up spending more lol (wont he nick lol)

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

Not very sunny swanage

imho, t4 vans are now getting hit with the vw scene tax that eventually seems affect all vee dubs.

They are good vans, but really i dont think they represent good value for money in the sort of budget you have. My personal prefrence for a van you can use with good reliability, would have to be a transit...... they are the most loved van in britain for a reason, they are very good at what they do.

The t4s suffer badly from gearbox probs, snapping rear shock mounts, head gasket problems, cam seals etc etc etc, i can go on for quite a while,

I really like t4s btw, i just dont think theyre the best true workhorse, especially not in the budget youve got. Make a bloody good camper though!!!

And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers!

oh and i've seen a few vans converted for wheelchair access with back windows and a ramp perfect for loading a bike . However need to check insurance to see if these mods effect the price...
