well i can only think of one reason for a lower limit on charge temperature, in that below a certain temperature, even after teh adiabatic compression the charge must be harder to ignite leading to an incomplete burn, but to my mind this temperature would be significantly lower than 39 degrees, and would also vary depending on the engines dynamic compression ratio! .. be interesting if he cites the proper source!

assuming thats 39 degrees C *wink*

that would be funny! 4deg C

I was wondering if it may be a theoretical temp for minimum fuel consumption as the flash point of petrol is approd 40 deg C

I was wondering this but couldn't be arsed with the argument. 39C seems rather hot and would require and interheater most of the time in this country.

I lookforward to finding out it's F

Just in case anybody is confused flash point is: 'The minimum temperature at which a material gives off sufficient vapour to form an explosive atmosphere.'

It is not the point at which it burst into flames, this is often misunderstood.

Edit: And petrol is -40 deg C, very cold. If it was +40 you would never start a car.

You should have just written -40, as C and F are the same at this temp.

For reference the auto ignition temp of petrol is 246C

Near Paris - France

For power, cold air is better but for economy, hotter air is better, maybe that temperature is referring to that type of driving ?
