Right gents I've just started a strip down and refresh of a head I had sat on the shelf. And found this small crack in the valve seat.

Is it now scrap...? or can it be saved.?

Si (with fingers crossed.)

I drill holes in everything..!

As long as it's just the seat & not the head it'll be fine. Just get new seats put in.

I would NEVER use the head as it is, but if you take it to an experienced head modifyer, I guess he could tell you whether if it's scrap or not. If fitting a new seat removes the entire crack, then it'll be fine.

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

The problem with the very large inlet valve heads that Longman produced was that he would undercut the valve seat in the port between the two valves , so thin was the material, left that it would crack fairly quickly relatively speeking,

Ian Jonson put a brand new Longman GT 17 on his Nitrous speedster and it cracked the valve seat in about 5 runs, lol.

i did succesfully weld in up for him but he never ran that head on gas again ,

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.
