brilliant! so i think my auto meter gauge has a 3/8" NPT thread on it..

Do you know where about i could get a adapter thats 5/8UNF male into a 3/8NPT female??

P.S. that bmw looks shit hot *happy*

As above ^^^ 5/8" UNF

I've had to re-drill and tap a hose adapter to 5/8" UNF as I've sleeved the one in the head down to M12 X 1.5 for the ECU sender and the sleeve I made was also 5/8" UNF.

Check the auto meter sendor thread. My autogauge had an 1/8 NPT and so do quite few sendors i think.

These are the guys who make the adaptor I have. I bought mine from Demon Tweeks but took ages to get the right one off them. Im sure other people sell them though or maybe go direct.

merlin motor sport do a 5/8UNF temp sensor that will do either oil or water. Costs about a tenner. probably easier the messing about with adaptors.

3/8" NPT is slightly bigger than 5/8" UNF so you can't sleeve it.

If you could buy (or just make) an adapter it would have to be stepped which would put the sender in a dead leg quite some way away from the water flow which would make the readings slow to respond and possibly read low.

A sandwich plate or hose adapter would be better.

Is it ok to use other senders for your gauge? Would it not give a wrong reading?

The odd thing about the A series temperature sensor is that it is a parallel thread and seals on a taper at the base of the hole.

So your adapter needs to have the taper. Otherwise you end up with loads of PTFE tape like me.

Na my probe is really long (so long in fact that if i put it straight into the block it wouldnt go all the way in)..

Its definatly 3/8"NPT it says it on the instructions i got with the gauge AND when i tried it in the 5/8 hole in the head it was ever so slightly bigger.. Ive just got to get an adapter now i guess *oh well*

P.S. its a mechanical gauge NOT electronic

OK, but if it's a mechanical type is the (long) bulb small enough to go through a 5/8"UNF to 3/8"NPT adapter ???

The 5/8"UNF end of the adapter will have a fairly small bore just to give it enough wall thickness not to break.

the bulb will just go through the 5/8UNF bolt ive already got in the head, JUST..
If it doesnt i rekon it will be so close that a little bit of filing wouldnt hurt :p
