Well after nagging Paul W for the last hour I think i've come up with an engine spec i'm happy with.

I wanna get this all sound before I spend loads of wonga.

I'm after suggestions/opinions/do's/don'ts etc.

Use: track/sprints/weekends

Wheels: 10"

1430cc (84mm x 73.5mm)
MED crank, wedged, back drilled
'S' rods
Kent 296 cam (maybe scatter?)
Omega pistons
Main caps 'studded' and hardened washers fitted
Ultra light flywheel and backplate
Cam belt drive
Cooper 'S' pulley/damper with trigger wheel

Turbo Phil cylinder head (37 x 32)
MED low distortion 1.5:1 rockers
11.5:1 c/r (? unsure on this?)

Spur drop gears, 1:1 ratio
Minispares clubman spur gear set
Minispares X pin diff
3.7:1 FD

Weber 45 on 7" steel manifold
Maniflow stage 2 LCB
Megajolt ignition

Opinions on wether or not the scatter cam or a different static compression ratio would be appriciated, but also on anything else.

Also what clutch would I be best using?

Cheers guys,

Owen.

I think you've made a wiser choice with the cam than the 320 you said you were going to use.
I would think a grey diaphragm & rally/race plate will be more than up to the job.

Just a thought, would it not be better to go for say a 286 ? Will you see anymore power using a 296 when you're surely going to have to set your rev limit to something fairly sensible when using a long stroke crank ?

Speak to Swifty - he is advertising a stage 3 LCB now

I seriously doubt it!

I'm not sure, the 1380 I had (was borrowing off a mate) had a 286 and it was a sheer let down.

The specs for the 296 in a 1275 are about 3,250rpm - 8,000rpm, but I figured with the much larger capacity it would tame the cam to about 7,500rpm?

It run out of puff at around 6500 revs in a 1293. Certainly came in at the time they specify though mind.

The head flowed well enough for it also. 118 hp with a hiff44, and 126 with a 45 on a manifold my friend knocked together for me.

I am liking the final drive choice though mind. It does baffle me why people run 3.2`s and lower at times.

296 will work great with that spec, make sure you keep good swirl in combustion chambers, compression is spot on use a little cvl in each tank to get the best from it run water temp at 80 deg set the cam in. At 104 and use .018' valve clearances at it should pull well over 120 bannas

If you want to compete in sprints then you'll need to stick to under 1400, otherwise you'll not be elligable for anything.

Sorry V, I meant 84mm. Edited now.

Wil, I only had the sprints down as an idea, but any track time will be fun.

Paul H, great info, all taken on board!

Cheers for all the input so far, greatly appreciated! :)

Keep the suggestions coming if you have any.
