Hello All,

This is what I am thinking of for my engine build and just wondered if people could sense check it for me please :)

looking at 1275 A+ bored to 1293
MED St2 rotating assembly
MED omega 18cc dished forged pistons.
4 Bolt centre strap
Oil jets for under piston cooling
Not sure if MED rotating assembly is complete clutch or not so need to check. was thinking grey diaphram
Head 36mm 31mm inlet and exhaust with phos bronze valve guides tapered 1.5:1 roller rockers
I was going for an MED alloy 7 Port but then need twin carbs or manifold to match perhaps and new plenum will have to made, maybe worth doing maybe not??
CR should be down around 7.5:1 I think but still need to do calcs yet
unsure on best cam for running 20psi boost
T3 turbo which will be mounted on homemade mirage style manifold or remote mounting on clutch side of engine bay
HIF44 turbo carb with standard metro turbo plenum
Intercooler to match high boost
Gbox will prob be straight cut with 4 pin diff
Recovery package for when I blow it to shit!

How does the above sound or does it smack of an amateur lol!

I will be using for weekend warrior or trackday so not looking for daily driveability just all out fun and power (well as much as I can afford)

Any guidance would be great :)

if your going 7 port i would fuel inject, imo no other point... and you would need 4 carbs (or 2 twin webbers) anyway

you wont the a hif44 and metty inlet for a 7port either (same reason as above) BUT if your using a t3 the easiest/ cheapest manifold would be a std one

every thing else sounds good

as your spending so much with med why not give them a call and get there opinion and pricing for the job lot, they are very helpfull and have helped me a good few times

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

I personally would be spending my money elsewhere than MED.
I was thinking of purchasing an MED crank and rods but was decided to go elsewhere.

I'm exceedingly pleased that I went to Force Racing for them instead. Carl can also sort you a centre main strap (4 bolt jobby not needed), oil fed thrusts, undercrown cooling jets

Also you could save yourself some wonga by going to someone like BENROSS or Turbo Phil on this forum for your cylinder head.

Also you won't "need" compression as low at 7.5:1, I reckon 8:1 is the absolute lowest you should need for 20psi, I believe many run higher than this with similar or more boost.

All this above is just my personal opinion however.

I doubt a T3 is that efficent at 20psi. much better to go with a modern turbo like a GT17 or GT20

Thanks for the input so far :)

I have a T3 I picked up already hence was going to use. Didn't pay too much so don't mind selling on and going with a more efficient turbo if it's going to give me more bhp!

TBH that was my thought with 7 port and I want to avoid things like injection as I want nice and simple. So will go for a mini 5 port head then. I will look around and ask some of the people on here then. I was going to have a bash at a head myself as have access to milling machine etc but don't have valve seat cutter yet so unless this becomes frequent probably better to go to somebody like benross. Also will be much better as he actually knows what he is doing!

What are peoples thoughts on the centre strap? I can get on mill etc to machine down cap so can make my own strap but thought the 4 bolt was needed at high bhp? or is this mainly if you start pushes revs up through roof and putting more strain system that way?

I will have a look at force then

ok true to form had a total change of direction again!

Got a BMW K100 8 valve head on the way with all the throttle bodies, injection rail and other bits like throttle position sensor etc.

I may go for the SC conversion kit but may also do it myself for the challenge. The jig for all the drilling I can knock up in Autocad no probs with high accuracy.

The end covers may be more of a challenge but will machine out of billet if cost not over top and doesn't look beyond size of kit I can use.

I think the rest will be very similar but maybe lightened bottom end with better conrods etc for higher revving engine.

I am still going to strap turbo onto it though*happy*

I am told this forum is THE place to be with this sort of project so will be bothering everyone soon enough*happy*

If your going K head then you want to be aiming for high 8's low 9's for the compression ratio.

I may sound like a cnut but what you have listed is all pipe dream stuff pulled out of a catalogue with no thought at all, 7 port then hif44? you want mirage style manifold and a t3 and you dont know what cam to run, best of all is the CR

someone needs to use the search button and get some basics right first

your right you do sound like a cnut lol! just kidding *wink*

no mate not 7 port hiff44 that would be being a cnut lol!

I am now going bmw k100 head 8 v anyway but no wouldnt slap one carb on a 4 port inlet although a hif44 is capable of flowing more air than the head would ever require! just be a poor inlet design that wouldnt

yes I am stil learning hence posting on here. I have bought nothing yet except the k100 head and am carefully working my way through it all.

Yours sincerely

Cnut
