As some will know I'm trying to use a front mounted radiator based on the Mk1 Metro installation.

That's not a turbo hose.

That's not a turbo hose. The turbo and n/a mg metro hose just has an outlet for the expansion tank. The heater pipe comes of the join between the radiator and the steel pipe, into the oil filter heat exchanger, up and into the manifold coolant pipes, out the other end into another steel tube and then of into the heater. That makes sense.... I vaguely remember the MG (N/A) did have a Tee piece down near the oil heat exchanger. I threw the hoses away as they were rotten so just needed my memory refreshing.
So I have a standard Metro hose with two stubs (so that's why the part number came up OK) but need an MG/Turbo one with only one stub out for the header tank and need to plumb the heater return in further down...... More delays

I may have a good used one throwing round. Also I'm pretty certain that there's one on the second breaker that we haven't got round to touching yet. You are welcome to one free of charge to get you going and prove the theory if you like. On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:

Thanks for the offer Andy, a photo alone of the MG/Turbo one would do me fine at the moment while I think about re-routing things.

Not so. The turbo hose goes to the expansion tank and the inlet manifold.

My engine is in bits so I can't get a photo. http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=226845 Your trapped hose wouldn't normally go near there on a Metro, as it goes up to connect to the inlet manifold. |

The lack of the modine oil cooler on the turbo means there was never any choice but to plumb into the inlet manifold. The 1275s without a heated inlet manifold would have had the hose that only connected to the header tank.

Thinking this through, it's surely only the N/A MG Metro that had the water/oil cooler ???

Richard is obviously right about the turbo, had forgotten about the oil cooler.

Well I thought I had thrown away all the MG Metro hoses but when I checked the box it seems I have only thrown away the top hose and the Tee piece - I still have the loop to the water pump (and the heater hoses).

Andy, neat work by whoever it was....

If that one is any use to you... Thanks for the offer, but no. The reason an aluminium one appeals is to have it really short, ie, shorter than a standard silicone Tee piece would be. My pipe run isn't straight - because I have put the radiator way over to the left to get over the promlems with the temperature switch, and improve the weight balance, I don't have a straight pipe, it's a whole series of curves in silicone so any additional Tee needs to take up as little room as possible. EDIT - Joe, just seen your post - would be interested to see how you made it all fit. I have thought about TIGing one up myself but I dont have the tooling to swage out the ends of the tube (as in Andy's photo) to stop the hoses pushing off under pressure and I don't fancy machining the tube bits up from solid just to get the profile. In my case, the mini hose is 25mm and is shaped to the standard mini rad outlet location. I'm going to cut the end of and put a 90 degree reducer on to go from 32mm down to 25mm, then a shorter length of alu tube with the spigot. Then a 90 degree silicon bend onto the chinq rad that I bought this week. I was planning to use an MPi rad, but they are fairly small and awkward in comparison to the fiat one.

I've just thought, to get around the problem with the profiles, I could just buy standard aluminium joiners of the two different diameters - which obviously have the spigot/retaining ring profile on them and cut and weld them together.... Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ??? |

i dont know if these help at all rod ,mk 1 metro thick rad ,and the bottom hose has 2 take offs, one heater, one header tank , i dont know what that hose is off i built it in 1998 so my memory has failed pathetically.
