Well, it's still in one bit..

Loads of thanks to Iain for his telephone tech support, and Tom for the flywheel puller. :)

Here's the pics:

check out that gloopy oil, and the sump plug magnet covered in metal!! :(

So, what should I do now? - buy another bottom end, or get this one fixed up?

your going to get loads of opions on this one , oil not the best colour , one pic has a pole stuck to the sump plug etc etc .
you need to get the main caps off and big ends a, have a good look at the shells , they tell a lot , look at the crank , knock the pistons out have a good look at them ....
better still take your bits to a good machine shop or someone you trust to have a look at them .

Everyone knows that instructions only have to be read if the thing doesn't work....

yes /no it depends what you find .....if you strip the mota fully , more than likely you find worn parts and thats going to cost ? or ?? or lots of ??`s but the good side is you know it`s all good /new , bad side is the cost , you could end up spending a lot of money ...
why did you spilt engine in first place??

wolfie, the guy i got the engine from, said the small ends had gone, so i took it apart so i can send it away to Morspeed to get fixed, plus, he's doing the chambers in the head too, and its easier for him once its all apart :)

I dont have much dosh to spend.. :(

Somewhere around Swindon

im surprised at the gloopy oil mate it was only outside a short while and mostly was covered with binliner untill it got windy

same as mark mate pull the crank out and have a look

if the cranks ok but the rods are fucked then let me know and ill send up some rods that i have kicking around here somewhere

Can i take the crank out without taking the pistons and stuff out? - what tools do i need? I'd hate to get half way thru, and get stuck! :)

getting to the point where i may as well fork out for new pistons if i'm going to rebuild the engine myself anyway! *wink*

The Stig..

Are you putting another cam in while you are there?

If you can find an MG metro(Not turbo,N/A) cam they work well for next to no money.
