Been looking at a few turbo engine bays and the brake servo is missing, I've always wanted to do away with mine to save space, weight & free up the engine bay a bit.

It looks a ton neater without that whacking great servo there!

I know they don't improve breaking, they just make pressing the pedal easier.. but I've never driven a mini without a servo, so I wouldn't know the difference.

Whose running without one?

never had one on the mini, i can press the peddle hard enough to brake something]
you just need to stamp on it alittle at first, you get used to it and a much better peddle feel

if you have a daily drive with a servo just be cautions when going from the mini to the daily, dont stamp on it in the daily *happy*

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

As you say it makes no overall performance difference, personally I prefer the feel of the pedal with a servo in. What you could do If you want to clear the engine bay as I did-remove the servo, give things a try without and if you decide you cant live without and need a servo back in, get a remote kit and put it in the passenger footwell as I did, or I have seen them hidden under the front wings. I quite like it in the footwell as it gives the 'whats that' question everytime someone new gets in! Remote kits not especially cheap but then what is!

I'd say theres a pretty easy rule of thumb...

if you weigh less than 10 stone or your missus drives the car then fit one.

All depends what size master cylinder bore you have. I used a std single circuit Cooper S one with Metty 4 pots and it was horrendous. i now use 6 pots with a 5/8 cylinder (KAD pedal box) and this works great.

Not true. MikeRace doesn't have one. He's both a girl and weighs less than 10 stone.

ive been thinking of removing mine, ran it without it before, was alrite really, i'm just over 9 stone and i personally think i could live with it. also out of interest how difficult is it to remove the servo from the system?

If in doubt... flat out! The words of a true legend

I've driven both and to be honest I didn't feel much of a difference, servo just makes it feel a little "smooth"

Much better having all that space in the engine bay :)

I'm under 11 stone ; never had any trouble locking the wheels up sofar (ok, that's no good either*wink*. I like a clean engine bay, although all those hoses when using a turbo kinda spoil that usually. On top of that on a Van or Pick Up (like I'm doing) the servo gets in the way of the fresh air hose to the cabin.

My car had a servo from the factory which I removed and replaced with the standard upright cylinder (GMC227 IIRC) 3 years ago. I didn't notice any difference except all the extra space in my engine bay. I will probably be going to alloy 4 pots when I get my car back on the road so it'll be interesting to see if it's still ok without the servo. Also I only weigh 9 1/2 stone and I've never had any problem stopping the car without a servo.

Lucky you, LHD car have the servo in thesame position with a bar going along the car to activate the brakes so the LHD setup is much more heavy !
