Mine is a 60mm beacuse it was an intermidiate size between the pipwork (50mm) and the dia of the plenum. I didn't want it to become a restriction, so sized it bigger than the pipework but not so big it wouldn't fit in. It was also what was available at the time, off a Grananda 2.0L.

I've gone for 54mm, another common size from a Rover 800.

Similar logic as matty, same size as plenum pipework.

With a single throttle body before the plenum and port injection (I assume that's what you are doing) there is no point in going bigger IMHO. A bigger one will just be hard to control at low opennings without snail cams and all sorts of other things.

The way I see it, throttle body size only becomes really important with individual throttle bodies and throttle body injection and even then, mainly on normally aspirated.

Thread revival,

Neil, did you ever sort a throttle body, and you other gents out there , matty, jim, carl, etc, I gather theres nothing specific it needs so its just down to pipework size and manufacture is more of a personal preference.
Realisticly il be thinking ford as thats my next of kin to minis.lol

I use a Ford TB like this one

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-ESCORT-MK4-S2-T...=item3361f8742d

from a Mk4 escort. You need to change the TPS for a 0-5v, rather than the standard switch.

I think it is around 55mm which is a bit large. I get full boost with just 10% throttle on the 998Ti.

yes i bought a 56mm elise jobbie its fairly small and uses the same wabash tps that most use, its the same as the rover 52mm and the standard elise just bigger bore there getting hard to find now i believe, however not sure if i will use it or not now as i have been offered something else.

It seems that as long as its no more of a restriction than your 50mm intercooler piping anythings fine

I should have used a Ford as that's also my next of kin....

With hindsight the Rover one i've got has a totally unique TPS and the IACV is also only used on a few models and some LandRovers. It's a nice integrated package but not as common as I thought it was - I bought a second one as a spare off eBay, NOS, no complaints about the quality but it was an exact mirror image of the one I've got... (left handed instead of right handed if that makes sense). Only Leyland/Rover could have done that :)

I needed a 0-5v variable output friom the TPS. The one that was fitted to the TB I got was just a switch.

Not sure exactly what it came off but it is physically the same as in the ebay ad.

It's a compact, simple TB.......

Preston On The Brook

Rover 820 TB with IAC stepper. mainly because the IAC is via the main throttle, and, that allows me to configure ALS without any additional valves *hehe!* if I felt the need to. Also to note that the HP of the standard 820T will be similar, another reason to use its injectors and TB *happy*

Bit on the bulky side though

Let me know if you're selling yours Neil. Just having a scout on Ebay there's lots of big ugly ones. The elise one is the neatest.
