The missus has a 52 plate Peugeot 206 1.4 LX automatic which she drives everyday. recently shes been doing 50 miles a day to work and is spending nearly £10 a day on petrol. this works out to be 26.7 MPG. shes doesnt hoon it and due to the soaring fuel prices her driving has been quiet conserved. ive had a look online and this model should be doing about 42 MPG.

can anyone suggest any mechanical faults that could result in lower MPG or is she telling porkys and has a heavy foot?

Does she sit in much traffic? stop start kills the economy especially on an auto.

Failing MAF sensor will cause poor running and bad fuel economy. If it has one, it might be worth whipping it out and giving it a clean.

27mpg in stop start traffic with a 1.4 auto is about right IMO. Pull the fuse for the AC see what happens. lol

if the car is in alot of traffic give it a proper hard ragging i find pug's suffer from build up of shit if they are used to poodle around, also check to see if the exhaust is blowing :)

funny you should say that paul, i had to replace the exhaust link pipe at the weekend. she does a lot of stop start motorway driving.

i think just need to get rid of it for some more economical.

can anyone suggest a good diesel automatic hatch back with good MPG for under £3000?

Then you are looking at a 110 bhp Golf TDI auto for about £4.5K with 85K+ and £150 pa rent.

Must say the festa is a bit cheeky at £35pa!

just a thought, have you tried re-setting the ecu? leave the bat compleatly dissconnected overnight then start again, you could then change the peramiters for more economic driving that may help?

my pug when i went to france (beading in mind it was -1 to -5 i managed 485 miles averaging about 55mpg around town hoofing it and stuff i get about 38 mpg what conditions you drive in change things alot!

basically leave the bat dissconected from both terminals over night then drive it softly and should change the car to run less fuel. or drive it hard with a new airfilter ect for a little better performance. i did this to mine and got 30miles more to a tank.

its really just adapting the ecu to softer driving its not doing anything else. imo it cant damage anything with the car as its the factory unit and you havent changed anything on the car.
