After replacing the head hasket last weekend my 1330 has been running poorly ever since. To start with i thought it was a blowing manifold. So i replaced a couple of studs and replaced the nuts.

It improved the problem slightly (the car stutters and splutters particulaly at half throttle expecialy under 2500-3000 revs, there onwards it performs great) It only seems to be when the car is running in gear, when it is is neutral is seems fine, all the way up the rev range

So i then resealed the y piece to the down pipe, and bacl box to the y peice. Still no improvement.

this afternoon i have put the ultimate engine steady that was before replacing the head gasket, as i thought the engine could be moving around, again it seems to have made no difference.

I haven't touched the carb settings so can't see how the fueling could effect it

Any suggestions/ideas of what to look at next are much appreciated.

Could be a manifold leak on the inlet side. also what did you set the valves to ??

as in tappets? If so 13 thou on both inlet and exhaust.

How can i test to see if it is an inlet leak?

There are many things that could be causing this, certainly sounds like fueling so a decent rolling road should be able to sort it. I take it its a none turbo?? but have you got the balance pipe fitted on your carb, runs from the flywheel side of carb to the top. If you have it could be worth blocking it off to see if it improves things but personally would book up a rolling road session.

it is N/A, in normal circumstances i would go along with it being fueling, but it ran faine ebfore i took the head off, and i haven't altered any of the setting since then?

I just rebuilt my motor and the carb was ok before and duff after it only sat for 4 days I tryed cleaning a couple of times then changed it all was ok as soon as I changed the carb.?????

yes definatly oil on the thingy (forgot what its called) when you remove it from the dashpot.

good, i had a similar problem once, very very annoying, it turned out that it was low on it, filled it back up and it was fine

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

change the coil! if that checks out ok,
make sure you have all the vacume hoses coupled correctly NO LEAKS
if all ok
the problem may lie with a weak mixture

Check the mixture by doing a plug chop, see what colour they are that might help diagnose air leaks giving weak mixture.

Also I once had a car with a rough spot at 4500, tried all sorts to cure it, it turned out to be the screw in the dizzy holding the condenser had worked slighly loose thus causing a misfire.....so check round your ignition as well.
