No idea on teeth numbers. But diff ones easy to work out, mark crownwheel with a dab of paint and then count the teeth by turning it, then do same with pinion, then divide the two and you have the answer.

Do crownwheel first as otherwise dab of paint would get everywhere and confuse your counting......

doesn't sound like a challenge box to me then, I'm sure my boxes are, as I have talked to Jack Knight and counted the teeth while on the phone to them.

Where did you get the box from?

Does anyone know the teeth count on the lay gear of a normal sc cr syncro box?

Near Lincoln

on my jkd dogbox the laygear is 14,18,21,23
and mainshaft 31,27,24,22 giving
the 'challenge' ratios of 2.315,1.568,1.195,1.000

Found some more figures

The ratios shoulds be:
2.31 1.57 1.19 1.00

Now this is similar to the Jack Knight set:
2.31 1.56 1.19 1.00

the setup for that is:
1st - 31/14 - 2.31
2nd - 27/18 - 1.56
3rd - 24/21 - 1.19
4th - 22/23 - 1.000

so thats a 14-18-21-23 laygear..

just been playing with this

http://www.quaife.co.uk/info/calculator.htm

Do mini box have a dropratio from first motion shaft to layshaft i.e 19:25 in my case

I then calculate
1st 2.5:1
2nd 1.7:1
3rd 1.2:1
4th 1:1

Right then,

The ‘33’ is the idler for the reverse.
So, lets work out the headset ratio:
Hence 25/19 = 1.31
Now work out the intermediate ratios:
1st: 15/29 = 1.93
2nd 19/25 = 1.3
3rd: 23/22 = 0.95

Now multiply by the headset:

1st: 1.93*1.31 = 2.53
2nd: 1.3*1.31 = 1.703
3rd : 0.95*1.31 = 1.24
4th: 1:1
