Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

I was reading with avid interest on the document you wrote on helical V straight cut gears on MM club &
I would be highly inclined to agree with you Dave.*happy*

The question is, oil force fed idler gear, have you ever tried this dave or anyone you know?
If so what?s the results. the extra longevity? *happy*

I presume tapping the main oil gallery near number 4 bore routing a copper pipe securing with P clips to the internals of the block and presume directing a small jet to feed the gear on top?

At this point jet orifice?? Diameter? Maybe the zetec jet grafted on to the end?

Also if the oil gallery has been tapped for under crown cooling,
is there sufficient flow in the pump to supply the above modification

Your input would be highly appreciated:

Dont direct a jet...

drill out the lay shaft and pressure feed that at the same time. A hole in the end of the shaft will feed the drop gear area.

I am doing an oil pressure supported idler bearing support at the moment. Can post some photos if you want.
It is not ready at the moment, but most of the work is done!

Added some pics under "Members Motors". As you can see it is not finished at the moment. Did it last weekend. I will have to turn the "oil feed part" in the lathe; also a new larger (53mm OD) bronze idler shim to replace the steel inner shim.
I will keep the std. outer steel shim.
Oil feed hole (will be in the bolt for the banjo feed outside) will be made into an insert , that can be changed. Will start with a 1,5mm hole.

I also removed the cage from the idler bearings and filled them up with needles. They load they can carry will be increased by this way. (3 cage bearings will make 2 modified bearings!)

Next winter (after a full season) I will see if this mods will work!!

Yes, only gearbox side: the helical idler is pushed to this side under load. Will see if it is enough. Was also thinking to oil feed the other side too, but I want to know if it is necessary at all. In one year we will know....

dogging it for severall months on the strip killed it.

I have been searching the photo section however I cannot for the life of me find the pictures....

Can anyone shed any light on this?

How did it go Harry? Or is the engine still in the car and running?

I dismantled the engine this winter and it is the first time that the g'box case is undamaged; i fitted all the components back as they are.
I am taking the oil from the (filtered) main gallery. I had only a very small wear on the bronze idler shim (could feel it with the fingernail)
I am still very happy with this setup!

Hey, im liking the needle roller mod. Did similar things on m mountain bikes when i used to build them, never used the cage type bearings when the fail at the moment you rely on them the most, get spat out and KO on a very large rock to come round and find my full face Carbon helmet smashed in at the back. Very lucky. Used single loose bearings ever scince to totaly fill the race.

Very interesting, very interesting indeed. Im gonna give this a go some time

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be...
So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...
