I just sold my unused Curley boot lid to a friend. he painted it and was going to put it on his car. But, it's WAY too big! How is the fit o n these, is it supposed to be rubbish?

What do you guys do, just trim it back?

dont say that, i just ordered a bonnet! weird how each one is made to order yet when i phoned they just said mk3 onwards yep no probs and that was it. surely loads of people just want a mk1 or mk3 onwards bonnet so you think they'd make a batch of each and not have to wait weeks....

Ive fitted both the Minisport (Curley) Carbon Fibre doors on my friends mini, was a challenge to sya the least.

Its not on the road yet, but ive heard the tops of the doors 'flap' open at high speeds, could be hearsay though.

i got a minisport (curley) bootlid. it didnt have the strengthening ribs or the lock mount on so i ground the skin of a rusty old bootlid, and trimmed and bonded it onto that. lookes good actually.had to do a bit of fettling to get it to fit mind.

yes they do! and it's looks like they will snap, they get sucked out at the top.

My Curley carbon dash has been a real pain to fit, loads and loads of trimming needed.

Thats just it, Carbon or glass panels and components dont fit straight out the mold. They would cost twice as much for the manufacturer to fettle them enough to fit correctly. They leave it to you. Also remember that steel doors dont fit either, both the body and door are jigged to make them fit at the factory so chances of the carbon ones fitting is slim.

Also if they made them to fit one car, they wont fit another. Do you see a trend.

Having said that, those who sell this stuff should tell you this

I have heard people say that the genuine steel panels are a worse fit than the pattern ones??? its down to the way the shell has settled IMHO.

Nothing fits anything straight off when it comes to minis, yet we still complain, of that i am guilty too.

I've just fitted a set of curley GRP miglia arches. I was suprised to find that the O/S was over 5mm wider than the N/S arch. It was a pain because I'd not noticed before they were sprayed. Otherwise they were well made and very light.

But I do accept that GRP parts will never fit perfectly, you just wait till you see my front end!

Also, a GRP copy of a steel door in every case I have seen will flap out at the top at speed, it's not a failing of curley doors.

leeds/wakefield.

you can purchase clever over centre latches as used in pro mod drag cars that hold the top of doors in ,openable from the outside., very nice too they are and at 50 + beens a go should be too,
i ,on the other hand use velcro straps to hold my doors in at the tyop,.
but then i doo reach a high, ish speed.lol. unlike JIm.
