Ive just changed my engine size on my V5 and the DVLA want me to provide proof of its size (which shouldn't be a problem) but they also want an engine number! The block had one but since having it skimmed and other work done it has gone and I don't know what it was?

What has everyone else done? Is the engine number actually needed? I wish I hadn't bothered now...so much for being honest! *oh well*

Cheers
Matt

it's a right cunt to change stuff like that now i've heard, engineers reports and all that, hence mines still down as a thou.

i think on my old car the V5 engine number was 1293-SCCR-TURBO :)

I just stamped a representable number onto the block, K1275RS *happy* went through onto the V5 no problem.

Proof of engine size - a recipt for the pistons and rebore should be good enough

Haha brilliant! *hehe!*

Ive got one sorted now, I didn't want to make a number up...knowing my luck someone else would already have that number registered to there car. lol

I didn't know you could just make one up!

So am I right in thinking a 1293 is actually a 1291.371605370496 CC? They want to know exact size. lol *happy*

How did you get that number?
I used:

Bore 71.11
Stroke 81.28
Cyclinders 4

And couldn't get anything above 1291? *oh well*

bore is often taken as 71.15, and stroke as 81.3 or 81.33

STD bore is 70.61, +0.51 (+0.020") gives 71.12 bore

I have always taken crank stroke as 81.33

In my other club these problems have been much more frequent recently and we appear to be advising the insurance company and letting the DVLA continue to look up their fundament for inspiration -seems to work.

The post office numpty was arguing that it was insured as a 1293 but registered as a 1275. Ive recently moved and thought I may aswell change the CC at the same time as changing address...wish I hadn't bothered now!

Interesting that you say that about the post office. The bloke who MOTed john's old yellow mini wasn't interested in the over bore size as he could only identify it as a 1275 block from the outside.

The bloke who mot'ed my car looked at the engine and said 'thats clean ay it mate'. It was only after he gave me the certificate when he said 'how come you've got a turbo badge on it'. I then disclosed that it was a rebuilt overbored metro turbo in a mini and that it was registered as a 998cc. *hehe!*

The MOT tester loved the engine, he was taking pictures of it and couldn't care less what it was. lol

The people in the post office know fuck all, they just see two different numbers and come up with "computer says no".
