Im currently rebuilding the front subframe and are changing the mini disks to metro turbo disks and drive flange but using the mini hub. The problem is i need to change the rubber boot nearest the hub but cant get the cv joint at the further end off so i can slide the boot off! Any ideas how i can do this? iv used lots of force and a large hammer but to no avail *frown*

Cheers matt

hold the outer CV with one hand, put lump hammer in other hand and give it a fucking big smack and it'll pop off.

So i clout the cv joint i wanna get off? and basically hold onto the cv joint at the hub end to keep it still?

Will it break the cv joint? this is what i was worried about didnt want to hit it too hard incase it broke lol.

yup thats it. the only reason i said hold it is to keep it straight with the driveshaft for ease and so it doesn't pop off and hit you in the nuts

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

m4d

give it some, a short sharp smack

i fitted metro vented discs and hubs these are fine
i used pre 1983 ball joints as they have the same taper as the mini, metro track rod ends as the thread is longer and got a braded brake pipe kit with banjo unions from minispares

oh one thing when you fit these it alters the camber to 1 deg positive so i fitted 1:5 neg arms which brings me to 1/2 deg neg

Everyone's said to 'twat it', but the easiest (only?) way is to snip the cable tie on the inner pot joint, then remove the whole shaft and outer cv from the car. You then hold the shaft vertically, and tonk the cv towards the floor.
When tonking, hold the cv such that you won't hit the inner ball guide. This is easilly damaged and not easilly replaced.

Also - it goes without saying wipe grit / dust / mud / etc off your hammer before using it - or the impact will see this crud headign straight into the cv joint. Which negates the point of fitting a new boot in the first place...

Cheers for ya help i got it off today and have changed the boot and put the mini hub back on.
One more question can i use the mini drive flange with the metro turbo disks i noticed i will have to open up the drive flange securing bolt holes in the mini flange cos they're not big enough but is this all i would have to do? Or is there a reason why the metro drive flanges are kept?

Cheers matt

i think you've gotta use the metro ones dude, pretty sure they're not interchangeable as the metro one is wider.

Use the metro drive flanges and screws with the metro discs. The mini ones are wrong as you have found out. Think of the consequences of those screws breaking and there is your reason to do it right!!
You will need to get rid of the 4 "lugs" that locate the metro wheel. If you have access to a lathe the best way to do it is to hacksaw off the majority of the lug then machine them up flat in the lathe.

Also you will need to use ERA Turbo caliper bolts in order to correctly locate the metro 4 pot calipers. Do a search as I have explained the reasons why before now and can't be bothered to type it all in again!!! They are available from Somerford Minis, some other places may also stock them too.

You need to change the 2 bolts each side that hold the caliper to the hub.

Yes you REALLY need to change them for "ERA TURBO CALIPER BOLTS"

The metro wheel studs are the wrong thread, tap them out with a hammer and put mini ones in there
