im trying to understand this engine and figure out if its worthwhile..

first of all the pros and cons of the engine without the turbo
does it still have the mg camshaft from the 1300?
is the engine capacity 1300?
will it have any power increases from the standard 1275?

any downsides?

sorry but i have tried searching and found no great answers to my specific questions

thanks andy

King Gaycharger, butt plug dealer, Sheldon Cooper and a BAC but generally a niceish fella if you dont mind a northerner

Rotherham, South Yorkshire

The 1275 metro turbo engine is a standard 1275 block, with uprated pistons, in some cases a hardened crank, uprated oil pump, standard cam, standard valve sizes in the head and sodium filled valve guides.

If you run it as n/a you will just be running a standard 60ish BHP engine.

The gearbox is the same, but with a 3.2:1 crown wheel and pinion instead of a 3.4:1

The MG engine is a standard 1275 engine, with an uprated cam and larger valves. Otherwise identical.

EDIT: Welcome to TM, the search button is your friend.

Well you could run higher CR than the standard turbo CR, but at 9.3:1 it's not that low.

It will be slower than a MG Metro non turbo engine, if both are in good condition, if that is what you are asking.

The heads are quite different between the turbo and the MG Metro.

The turbo inlet and exhaust valve sizes are a bit smaller than the TAM1059 and TAM1061 valves fitted to the MG head as standard. Also the chambers and throats are different shapes as standard in the MG head along with having hardened valve inserts fitted for the exhaust valve seats.

Not strictly true. The early NA MG Metro heads had the larger 35.7mm inlet, but the later unleaded MG heads were downgraded to the smaller 33.3mm inlet.
