Hi,

I am new to turbo mini's, have recently purchased a complete metro turbo engine 12HD26 and have a couple of questions

1. There's a pipe missing on the carb(see arrow) Is this needed and if so how easy to fix?

2. The valve stems on the cylinder head are the same size, I know they should be bigger on the exhaust valves, could this of been some sort of unleaded conversion?

Any help is much appreciated and sorry if these questions have been asked before.

That needs to be blanked off. Personally I would drill and tap it then fit a suitable grub screw with some thread lock.

humm!
not that easy about the blanking of.
I would say if you'll use about std boost up to 10/12 psi, I would blank it and see, but if you have a bit more in your mind, i would like to use it to blow some "before restrictor" boost in it.

As far as I know none of the Turbo heads were ever unleaded, so it's possible the head has been swapped for an unleaded one. The only way to see is to remove it and see.

It may be that someone has just replaced the head with a standard head, pre unleaded.

Obviously a standard head will have the standard stem seal sizes and look no different to an unleaded head until you take it apart.

A turbo head has a "T" stampedon it near the thermostat housing. As does the block near the water pump.

Not all of the metro turbo heads had the "T" stamped into it, so if you haven't got one then don't rule it out yet, if you have one then theres no doubt.

As above, they only occasionally have the "T" stamped on them for some reason.

Thanks everyone, just had another look at the cylinder head, no T stamped at heater take off, valve stems are both the same diameter and it has double valve springs, think someone changed it over in its previous metro life

Can you see the valve part numbers? they should just be visible on the valve stem below the top cap.

I wouldn't worry about it, I'd say most folks on here aren't running a "Turbo" casting anyway.

If he has the larger MG valves fitted then he may only need to have work done to the exhaust valves but it may all be done.

Had another look this afternoon at the head, I think the exhaust valve number is TAM1061, can't make out what the inlet is.

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Is that a bad thing? I was told the engine was from a written off metro turbo so think it must of been a runner, again any info appreciated

Then I would guess the others are TAM1059 which could mean you have a MG1275 spec head in which case you will only need to change the Exhaust valves for some SS steel affairs and your good to go.
