i just tryed to get engine running in new project just standard 998 and found that the valves are sticking gonna rip head of tomorrow and see what bores are like but i was thinking if the bottom ends all good i will sort head out with new seats valves guides seals and was tempted to maybe change valves for slighty bigger maybe
was after a little help in desiding whats best i dont have lots of cash so value for money is inportant cheers

I'd just stick a good second hand head on unless you can get hold of a good modified one second hand

yeah i did think that so if anyone has one for sale let us no thanks and i just needed one pritty quick thats why i was trying to get repaired thought it be quicker

you could try a 12G295 head - there are a couple on e-bay; i used one years ago and it was a good improvement over standard provided its been skimmed to suit the 998

the 12G295 is off the early 998 cooper; if it is standard, it will need skimmed as on the original car it ran with D topped pistons;

its the 12G940 off the 1275cc that needs the block modded.

If you fancy a bit more, stick an MG cam in as well - together with a stage 1 kit, it is a huge improvement
