Would it take much to get it registered once it's been built?

You would need an IVA.

And a kit car that was produced pre SVA (which has since become IVA) may not meet the current IVA requirements without some further work/modifications.

I don't know specifically about the Midas but the kit car I acquired mid 90's never got finished because I missed finishing it before the SVA implementation date and it could not pass SVA because of the original steering column design.

There are a number of 'sticking points' with the IVA, but in general most cars should be able to pass.

There are a few issues that need thinking about, and I concede that in some instances a car's design may mean it's a non starter.

I agree but would just re-word it slightly.... most cars can be made to pass :)

It depends on the interpretation of the rules and is probably down to individual inspectors.

But at £200 per test and £50 per retest (last time I looked) it's worth checking the "car" vs the "Rules" first :)

And join a club for the specific piece of plastic (if there is one) to see what the main issues are.

There is an owners club at and an owners forum at

I'm not aware of anyone who has put a Bronze though the IVA but the Gold kit is still in production.

Lots of kit manufactures altered their designs in '98 (or was it earlier) when SVA came in.

What would worry me with this one is it pre-dates SVA by quite a few years so could need additional work to meet the current rules.

That doesn't mean it can't pass but worth checking what extra might need doing first.

Looking through the IVA technical guide, 90% of it is stuff that you should be doing anyway IMO.
