But not as brilliantly captured as Matt's view, I must admitt *wink*

Might need a softer spring, looks like the current one is pushing the piston down with too much force? I'm surprised it works *happy*

He's got no carb damper fitted. How does that work??

Fuck me I want a mini on the road again!

I don't know why and how exactely it works, but it works well enough. Except the little 'judder' of the piston on full lift :) That's what I need to get rid of... Apart from that it's been working great for the last 10k miles.

Have I got this right ?

If you just take the brass piston off the piston rod and run the carb with no damper its still driveable ?

If so, what was the point of the damper in the first place ?.

The damper does exactly what its name is, it dampens the action of the piston moving up and down. The slight shuddering of the piston in that video is what it prevents.

I like the vid.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Thats it's purpose. And I'm not happy with the judder as it is now - but I'm positive I can sort that out. On the other hand it doesn't seem to be a huge problem?

Des Hammill wrote a bit on that subject in 'The SU high performance manual' - I'm sure his words explain it better than my babbling :)

apart from damping, it causes acceleration enrichment.

I would not try this espcially on a turbo motor, you will probably be leaning out and will damage something

In my experience the only way to get a mini engine to get up and go with no damper or damper and no oil is to enrich the mixture.

If you have the correct mixture setting and no carb damping you get massive flat spots.

If you look at it the other way: as a retarder, to combat leaning out under rapid acceleration. It's the same effect (no leaning off), but a different approach. And with that theorie you can make it work.

And yes, it needs a richer setup. But I still get about 40MPG with ease.

But as said: Des Hammills words can probably explain better than I :)

Controversal topic I guess :)

Agreed, but fuel injection is so much simpler - no dampers, nothing mechanical, just type the acceleration enrichment you want into the laptop :)

Amen to that,

seconds to make a change, a change that is much more predictable too :)
