2) You also get a outstanding returns policy from Halfords. The reason being this- the spotty young lad or bored disinterested little bird plastered in polyfilla doesn't give a toss what you are bringing back, or whether it is broken or not. It is no money out of their wage packet if they accept your return and give you a new one. So that is what you get. Try the same thing at your local motor factors and the gaffer will sense the potential lightening of his wallet and will fuck you off in no uncertain terms.

Tom, sound like you've had better experience than I did, I guess it depends who is on the desk.

About four years ago I brought I Halfords Professional ratchet spanner, with Halfords Professional embossed on the side & a life time guarantee. Last weekend I managed to break said spanner, so I called by my local Halfords to see if they'd honor their lifetime guarantee, sadly they couldn't / wouldn't do anything as I didn't have the receipt for it. Who keeps the receipt for a four year old spanner?

I think your suspicion is correct and it must very much depend on who is on the desk.

I have a lot of the professional range and on occasion broken the odd thing. (Mainly 1/2 to 1/4 drives - using them when I suspect something might give!!) :)

Just taken it to the parts desk and they get another one off the shelf and swap it, no question of a receipt...I think you have been unlucky.

My Local Halfords, manager (steve) of scunthorpe branch, is about as helpful as a handbreak on a kanoo! Arrogant, and smug. More interested in selling mountain bikes, than helping customers with problems! I find after 30days you cant take anything back, even with the receipt! A**E H**E

crizd - since pretty much everything halfords sells (obviously not consumables) has a 12 month guarantee you could quite easily get it exchanged, but the policy is to not give refunds after 28 days. I work at halfords and sometimes it's very difficult to assertain what is best for the customer and the shop...think of it from his POV as well

All I wanted was an exchange...... :(
But the head unit in question is now in their hands, being sent away for repair.
Is it only refunds they wont do after 28days? This guy insisted on not exchanging it, no matter how many times I asked. LoL

In retail, an exchange will be given within 28 days, after that its a repair or exchange at the retailers discretion - they will always repair rather than exchange if they can as its cheaper for them.

Some of the professional tools are good, like the 3/8 ratchet, I use it every day at work, and it regularly has a scaffold tube over it when things are too tight, and its never broken yet lol. They even replaced a whole spark plug socket for me because I lost the rubber from inside it lol. Do agree about most of the staff tho.

Halfords are brilliant bought the largest compressor they do in a sale. My brother incorrectly pointed out that the plug in the end of the tank was missing I kept quite as I knew thats how it came and that's where the tap fits. Any how the manager not being able to find the elusive plug knocks 25% of the sale price and notifies the till. When we get there the cashier only thinks the manager has adjusted the normal price and applies the sales discount again.

Brilliant. He nearly wet himself for laughter when I told him *Rofl!*
Whats not to love with Halfords.
