Quite right graeme. Problem for me is that the wheels stick out far too much, I bet it's wider than long. which will make for interesting handling!

i would have put it in a clubby to keep the mini proportions, and modified a mini floor pan, imo that is a mini body on a sierra cosworth chassis nothing else...

It'll be interesting to see how he'll cover those wheels.

If it where me, I wouldn't have used the sierra floor plan. Fair enough he needs the suspension pick ups and the engine mounts etc, but I think the bits in between could have been replaced with something more custom and a lot lighter and nicer to look at.

good skills for having a go though

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

There was a cosworth powered mini at Brirish Aerospace Hatfield way back in 1991. That was in a clubman. I saw this car it was black and just looked normal except for the Cosworth alloys.

I've been following this one on 16v Mini Club - can't wait to see it finished. He certainly seems to be going about it the right way.

I was under the impression that he just put a bigger tunnel in it. I'm pretty sure its still mostly Mini.

I haven't read it in detail but the photos towards the end show a lot of thought and effort.

The Cossie doesn't have a chassis as such, it's a monocoque with a simple rear "subframe" (actually a single large tube) holding the rear suspension mounts for the trailing arms and the diff mountings and a front alloy crossmember holding the lower front suspension and the steering rack and engine mounts.

All other load bearing points (front tierods/antiroll bar, rear gearbox mount and suspension turrets are direct to the shell.

I expect the width is down to use of the 4X4 drive train, the front driveshafts are very short anyway (owing to the front diff being one side of the sump and an extension shaft through the sump to a support bearing the other side taking up most of the width) so he's probably kept mostly standard components (I haven't read the thread in absolute detail so may be wrong there...) but all in all, I think it is a superb project.

Re. the "why waste a good Cossie" post... there are more of them available in bits than on the road now - partly due to the Chavs or thieves crashing them and partly down to rust, they are 20 years old now and it shows.....

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???
