Has anybody got a top down shot of a mini engine bay. In particular down the back of the transfer case, showing the gap between that and the subframe

Ta.

Got bored of looking in build threads for them *oh well*

Not until now.....

Ignore the stainless steel pipes and thermocouple cables, they're a fuel injection thing.....

What do you want to know, the gap is about 30mm front to back and 20mm side to side in the corner.

Thanks Rod.

I've bought this of ebay:

Really early metro's with 1275 engines had a different subframe and completely different engine mounts. I've only seen these twice, once on a mint early 1275 s and the other time is on JF's metro challenge car.

That one goes on the triangular mount on the back of the transfer casing. With these mounts the engine is virtually solid mounted.

I'm hoping to squeeze it in down the back and do away with the dog bone top mount.

I plan to make a tubular style front subframe similar to Mike race's so hopefully I can make it fit...

Obviously I'm going to drill loads of holes in it as it looks really heavy *hehe!*

OK, in that case the horizontal flange of the subframe runs through the middle of the "triangle" of the Metro mounting bosses (mines an earlier A+ housing so isn't drilled/tapped for the metro mount but the bosses are cast anyway).

In which case i would say 25mm front to back to the bosses, as my initial measurement was between the subframe and the casting in the lower part of the casting between the bosses.

Hope that makes sense.

BTW, my MG Metro doner certainly didn't have that - I think mine was an '83 ???

I guess it's wait and see how well it fits when I eventually build the mule engine and butcher my subframe.

I have the option of mounting it with the small end pointing upwards rather than horizontal. Possibly it would fit the opposite way round to the photo.

By early I mean the second half of 1980 and not much beyond. You can see what I mean part way down this:

You can only see the passenger side, but you'll see the difference.

If the triangle of the mounting bosses is equilateral you could fit it in any of three positions but only the original position will give you a horizontal/vertical boss/bolt.

The other two positions (if possible) will give you 60 degree angles on the boss/bolt.

(can't see the link, it appears I need to be registered....)

This is the pic:

You have to be registered because they are all scared mini owners will buy their cars as engine donors. *hehe!*

I have a feeling it will hit the tower.

I'll post up more pic's when I eventually put the mule engine in it. Any year now...
