Smack the end of the puller with a big hammer and leave overnight.

have you got it lined up so that the big triangular bit is parallel to the flywheel? If not you might end up getting the flywheel a little bit wonky on the taper.

Happened to me last week and I ended up snapping the big bolt on the puller!

Wind the centre bolt as tight as you can then hit it dead square with a copper mallet - although your are hitting it in the "wrong" direction, the laws of physics (action and reaction are equal and opposite) puts the shock load onto the flywheel in the correct direction and it will normally jump off.

If not, tighten the puller centre bolt further and hit it (dead square) again....

Otherwise get a decent sized puller or even a hydraulic one...

I have never, ever stripped the threads on either the 3 small bolts or the centre large one.

What make of puller are you using ???

Are the threads in the flywheel still OK ???

Was it the right bolts - there are two, early imperial and later metric ???

The make is laser I think!? Yeah they were the 3 correct ones and the thread that stripped was in the flywheel!!!

OK, if the thread in the flywheel stripped I have to ask the obvious.... were the three small bolts fully screwed in, ie, the big middle one backed off enough before screwing the small ones in ???

If the little ones were fully in, it will have pulled out all the threads in the flywheel hole so you will have to drill/tap it the next size up (preferably do all 3).

If the bolt that stripped the threads wasn't fully in there are some good threads left at the back of the tapped hole, so you may get away with a longer bolt....

Whatever happens, do NOT try hitting the flywheeel from behind... only take it of with a puller. Hitting from behind (as suggested on some other forums) will either start a crack leading to failure at high RPM or a bent and worthless crankshaft.

(edit - to make better sense)

You have taken out the aluminium keywasher? I took a flywheel off in the dark, outside where time wasn't on my side and hastily forgot to take the key washer out. After 10 minutes I figured out what I'd done. That washer was then fubar! *hehe!*

Yea the 3 bolts were fully in and the correct size! I think I will tap that one thread then do the other ones shen it comes off! And thanks for the advice I appreciate it!!

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

something is not right,
if the putter is used right it should come off. My laser made puller has taken an impact gun at 200ftlbs and a 13lb hammer to shift a flywheel that has spun.
Flywheel came of with bang louder than my rifle
the puller has been used since

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

By the look of it, it looks like aluminium. What material are they made out of???*oh well* I know minispares sell an uprated one but at £20+ pound a pop seems a little steep. *surprised*

Deffo a ferous material, fuck knows what grade though, but its not great. Uprated ones are EN24 I believe.

Although I don't think much of the laser ones, I agree something else was wrong if the 3 bolts were fully inserted - most likely the thread(s) in the flywheel were already damaged from a previous attempt in a previous life.

I've seen damaged ones before and have just swapped the bolts for studding which you can screw in a bit further (the bolts being shouldered) but obviously care is required lining the puller up square then. I would have suggested studding in this case but the thread is clearly now fully stripped.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

I would drill them out a bit bigger, get some longer bolts and put nuts on the back. Use decent bolts, preferably cap screws and there is no way it wont come out.

I too use an impact gun as it hammers and applies torque without rotating the crank much.

Even heavily fretted flywheels come off easy enough.
