Like many on here we are all aware of those areas on a mini that really do suffer from the dreaded rust.

We are also aware of the miriad of after market products that are just expensive bling.

With this in mind, when I pulled my car to bits (again) back in 2004 I looked at those parts which do suffer from corrosion and took the step to getting them chrome plated just to see if this would extend their inservice life.

These were the Brake servo, Clutch master cylinder and top engine steady mounting plate and the Maniflow down pipe.

Six years on and not surprisingly the clutch mounting plate and servo are in perfect conditon, also the cross member below the mounting plate has suffered no further degredation.

The big surprise is the condition of the down pipe. This is still in perfect condition, no rust inside or out. This was not chromed from new rather my year old rusty unit. Like I say six years on and its perfect.

The inside was chromed aswell but not polished. Maybe worth thinking about for other parts.

Rob.

Ceramic coating would be a better bet for a downpipe really I would have said.

Regardless of what coating you add to what component removing and installing this is a joy no hammer's or prying things apart. The fact that the surface treatment has remained smooth aids in its fitting and removal It has never leaked in the 6 YEARS its been on.

What other items would you rather not see rust. The shell does not count as an answer in this case *tongue*

My supercharger manifolds are all ceramic coated, it's rather nice. I'd pick that above chrome anyday...
