Just went out to the car and found it like this.

I never liked the look of this screen as you could see where it looked like there were stress points in the screen and by the looks of it it has gone right along those lines, these are the vertical areas you can see in what's left of my front screen. The dark area in the centre of the screen is part of the shadow cast by the Budlia in my drive, I can see no impact marks and there are no stones in the vicinity. Bollocks!!!!!!!!!*frown*

Typical failure of a toughened screen.

The missus' Mini has what look like heat marks on the windscreen in the same pattern as your screen has left around the cracks - guess I'd best get it changed sharpish.

Those lines can sometimes be seen in a toughened screen, probably explains the Triplex Zebrazone sticker. I don't think they are an indication it's about to fail. It's lucky it was laminated anyway.

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Could have been an interesting few seconds if that had hapened while I was driving. A friend says that was a Zonaly toughened screen which thank god you should not be able to have fitted, you may be able to buy one but a screen fitter should not supply and fit one (so I have been informed).

Have fitted a laminated one now which I pulled out of my other mini and it seems too small for the hole *Confused* Changed the rubber and still seems too small. What gives?

And if you have a zonal toughened screen fitted I would advise you change it or you could get a face full of glass!

I've had issues in the past with differing sizes of screens- i think i went through 3 or 4 i had in the workshop before i got one to fit; interestingly it was the othewr way round for me

Lads I have to say that I am glad this screen went because I found a much more serious issue.

I had to take the carpets out because of a little rain soak, and not to my surprise the sound deadening on the drivers side was wet. But the base of the sound deadening for the bulkhead was dripping, but only in that area.

On closer inspection I found a 3" tare in the floor pan around the drivers side subframe mount. If the screen had not gone I would not have found this until the winter strip. And seeing as the interior only went in a few weeks ago I can say with absolute certanty it was not there then. And there is no rust in the area its a tare through a clean sheet of material :(

Does the tear look similar to this?

Common problem I believe

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I had the exact same thing on the subframe mounting points on both sides of the car. Althought it looked like a crack I assumed it had just rusted away like the majority of my car has. Usually cracks propagate from a weakness such as a hole but on my car it was in the middle under the mounting, which I did not expect to be an area experiencing enough strain to cause a crack. Alternatively is it due to cyclic loading of that area causing the metal to fatigue? I might be talking bollocks but I would be interested to know how I can avoid it cracking again.
