I've just been to see a 1978 T reg mini clubman auto 998cc in java green.
I found out about it from my girlfriends uncle who done some decorating work at the house and discovered it in the garage. Its been in the garage for about 10 years, unused. So he enquired about it on my behalf and they want to sell it!
Its totally original, the only bit of rust i found was in the boot and on the drivers a panel, and theres a small dent in the n/s rear quarter panel. Its done a genuine 41,000 miles.
I hasn't started for all this time, but it should start up with a decent battery and some fresh petrol.
The problem i have is how much to offer them? before i saw it i was thinking of offering £200, but after seeing it there is no way i can offer that or i dont think they will accept it! its far to clean!!
So now i'm thinking of offering £400-£500 for it....what do you reckon?

Sounds fair, it would prob do more but try there and see how you go.

Mini like that dont pop up too often, supose it also depends what your wanting it for.

Both my last clubmans cost me £400 each. One had a blown engine/box and needed a bit of patching and the usual bits and bob's to get it road worthy.

The other was a rolling shell and could have been patched up and put back on the road, but that didn't happen...

The best way to work out a price is to have a conversation with the owners. They may just see it as an old scrapper that they want rid of, or they might see it as a valuable classic. You run the risk of offending them if you get the offer wrong. Much better to get an understanding of their expectatione before you talk money. I'm not saying that will be easy though...

well i called the guy earlier and offered £400, apparently its not enough! but he wont tell me how much he wants..!

I would tell him to give you a call when he has worked out what he wants for it. He's not going to sell it by not telling anybody his price - it's not ebay...

i get the impression from talking to him that he thinks its worth a small fortune, i tried explaining that its been sitting for 10 years and it will need a fair bit of work to get it up and running., i gave him my number and said to call me when he has thought about it.
It was like ebay, but over the phone!!!
Just give me a bloody price man!
