I have a 1984 MG metro turbo that I have just completed some body repairs to. Getting it back on the road there is a loss of power/inability to rev beyond 4000.

Based on the info in this forum I have installed the "tee trick" linking float chamber to boost pipe. I have also installed a boost gauge and a fuel pressure guage and replaced the link pipe that goes from one side of butterfly to the other as mine was shiny plastic. I have also renewed the electronic ignition module and relpaced coil with matching type along with new leads and plugs.

Symptoms are - starts first time, idels really well. Revs to red line off load, boost gauge works and fuel pressure increases in line with forum recomendation. When driving pulls OK to around 4000 rpm when 2 thirds of dash boost gauge light up but then misses/holds back. Fuel pressure still increases on load.

Looses no water and oil pressure 60 psi running, 18 at idle. Took the plugs out last night and all were light chocolate brown with no oil (inner two slightly darker as expected with a series). Any ideas where to look next?

Thanks, Martin Baker. Mobile number is 07802 780377 if I have missed something.

I'm assumming this is still in the metro? *smiley* Have you checked the little ecu is still connected and working. It controls boost and gives you the signal for the LEDs on the dash.

It should give you more boost at around 4000rpm. I would expect it to have a boost signal hose from the turbo (close to the actuator hose) and then some ellectical connections. I think It's up the dash somewhere.

Thanks for the advice so far. Am confident that ECU is connected as LED boost gauge is working on the dash. Also distributor is connected bt will check as is advancing by putting acuum pump on it.

Advancing, or retarding again once on boost!

All, thanks for the replies so far. Checkede dizzy, seems fine. Felt like a fuel issue so pulled choke out and it picked up and went like the clappers. So took top of carb and blew through the jet into carb and then from chamber to jet. Put it back together and now seems to run really well. Haven't got a rear section for the exhaust so can't try it fully but so far so good. Thanks again everyone.
