I'am running an Vmax Eaton 45 SC at about 11 pounds boost on my 1380cc. Since I had about 10.5 : 1 compression I was told to install a decomp plate with my standard head gasket, which I did. It appears I just blew the head gasket with only about 20 hours on the engine. What is the best head gasket for this application, and who sells it ??

Thanks
Allan

Can only suggest you dont use a decompression plate and aim to lower compression with larger combustion chambers or bigger dished pistons or a combination of both. With true sufaces on head and block the payen bk450 head gasket is fine. Other option is low boost high compression?

BK450 for me, Failing that the AF470, pretty much the same just has an additional O-ring for the oil-feed.
AF460 too.
You will need 2 of whichever as you know, but there has been of late, some quality issues with head gaskets lately.
Namely the non-british produced ones i hear.
The lads on here will know and advise you in the right direction.

Agreed, beaten to it.

If he has built already, then head work is the answer. But wallet is the decider.

For the cost of a decompression plate & an extra gasket you could have the chambers worked.

Check out Cometic Gaskets, I use them on a much bigger blown motor, they are bullet proof. I was really pleased to find they make them for A series and put one sraight on my mini.

I would recommend having the chambers on the head worked for a permanent solution.

neil slark recommended one for our mini, and thats what we have now, but you must have the block and head surface ground smooth, not just milled flat.

Thanks All,

I think I'll just install a Cometic Head Gasket and see how that works out for now. I only have 3 more Auto X's this year and will hope that holds out.

OK point taken but I think that any other gasket would of probably failed sooner

i too would recomend ditching the decomp plate. i have heard nothing but bad about them... have benross or turbophil work your head, itl be alot more benificial as the chamber shaper could be imroved aswell.

Just to be clear if you are using a decompression plate you WILL need two headgaskets, one for either side of teh decompression plate.

Iv got a decompression plate fitted to my engine using a BK450 on both sides of the decompression plate and iv not had any headgasket problems...

Look on the bright side you'll pay a lot less than we do over here! We pay VAT, Import Duty and delivery half way around the world for Cometics

Check his location may be cheaper buying a new head unless he is over on holiday *wink*
