hi i am building my first mini engine and have just sold my over car so i can now think about putting some money into my turbo lump! *happy*

basic spec:

block rebore +020
FIS Special - 18cc pistons
head worked - dont know much about this so any suggestions appreciated! i was thinking Head 36mm 31mm inlet and exhaust, bronze valve guides, i dont know what valves, springs, rocker or chamber sizes!?
a+ conrods - polished, balanced
standard crank and cam
standard box - straight cut in the future
turbo - i dont have a clue t3,t2 or gt17 maybe?
modified plenum for intercooler and dump valve
standard turbo carb - overhaul
opened up exhaust elbow
possible dry deck
2 core rad
ignition- megajolt when i can afford it!

any help greatly appreciated!!:) basically i have about 700 -1000 pounds to spend on it so if anyone has any other better ideas what to do with that money it will be appreciated!!

thanks ben

£700 won't build you a bottom end with 18cc pistons chap.

the cast omegas are a good piston, use them and get the head chambers out to 28cc.

What sort of power are you aiming for? Intended use?

I'd go for a different cam. Ph2 or similar.

From what I have learnt (mainly on here)
The standard gearbox is OK for about 10psi of boost.
The GT17 spools up faster then the other two so the boost will come in earlier.
I believe the carb will need a different needle? (hopefully someone will come and either correct me or expain this better)
as for the cam as theoneeyedlizard said or a standard mg metro cam

The head with 18cc pistons will have to be skimed to raise the compression ratio or it will be to low its better to go with the 10cc pistons i have 18cc but thats because i got them cheap from my tutor, i think you can get away with 29mm exhaust valves but they will need to be replaced with race valves. Double valve springs are a good idea and was informed, on here, the standard rockers can be used.
Dry Decking is also a good idea
Maybe get the crank nitrided or tuffrided? and balanced (dont forget a center main strap aswell)

That's all to my knowledge anyway.

I've got a +20'' block with forged accralites, standard head with a very light surface grind, stock gearbox and drops. Don't exactly know what boost i'm running but my gauge mostly goes round to 1bar on boost. It's a freakin animal. I haven't banged loads of money into it but still a fair bit.

Well the standard turbo T3 if you don't want to make any changes to the turbo manifold?
And yu have to cut the bulkhead or get a mirage manifold

what manifold is needed for the gt17 and do you have to cut the bulkhead if you use a t2?

OK

1. GT17 can be fitted to a Metro turbo manifold with some mods (and a bulkhead box). Or you need to get a custom manifold fabricated (a couple of people have done this and fitted the GT17 without a box).

2. Yes you need a bulkhead box if you fit a T2 to the Metro manifold. However if you use a mirage manifold or have a custom one made it will fit without a bulkhead box.

3. If you use the search feature on this site all your questions have already been answered.

4. Good luck in your quest for boost *smiley*

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.
