Here's the start of my MK1 rebiuld. The plan is to put it back on the road with an 850 engine completely standard spec.

It has been patched from top to bottom, nearly every panel need replacing but it will be a challenge and be completely rot free when im finished with it. *happy*

Plans are to:
finish fixing bulkhead
Replace roof
replace complete floor
Replace quarters
replace boot floor, rear arches, rear bulkhead
replace inner wings/ inner A panels
Replace front end

Its pretty much a DIY heritage shell. lol Any way pics...

It is solid, but it would be easier if it was rusty. Trying to work out what panels to use as a datum isn't easy! lol

Looks like you're going to be having some fun. Not sure if the later roofs where the same shape as the MK 1 roofs??

Andy as far as I can see the roof panel is the same, I'll double check with somerfords though before removing the old one.

Those pictures make it look mint...soo many hidden sins lie beneath though! *hehe!* Once the new floor is in, it shouldn't be too bad im hoping.

If you get full inner front wings, take time to line them up with the front end assembled thats my advice.... just finishing my van. Will be positing some pics up soon. M

Looks like a great project, probably the most difficult starting point to end up with a standard mk1 but that has to be part of the fun. Mine had a lot of patches but probably not as many as that, it makes it really difficult to tell how it should be put together.

What's the roof from? If it's not from a mk1 you will have a lot of work to make it fit and if it's from a mk3 it will be very difficult.

From what I can tell from looking at the somerford catalogue, all roofs were the same regardsless of year? *oh well*

Cheers for the advice on the inner wings, I am planning on fitting full inner wings and was a little concerned on getting them to line up!

The roof skin itself is the same no matter what year so if you're just using that it will be fine. If however you are using the top inch or two of the body as well then you need a mk1 as a donor for it to be easy, a mk2 would be possible but the rear window size changed. A mk3 had a smaller gap between the roof gutter and the windows as well as different length doors. A later mk3 has a different roof gutter design as well. If you cut it close enough to the roof gutter it would be possible but a lot of work.

Ive spoken to somerfords today and they also confrimed they are the same skin, apart from post 97 apparently? *oh well*

Ive finished grinding the lip down on the roof skin just some sound deadening to remove and a clean up around the out lip edge then its readtyto go on. :)

Flame Red - I near;y went down the joining at the pillar route, just below the gutter line. I decided trying to clean up the weld all the way round would take forever and would probably require loads of filler (something im trying to use the least amount possible of).

Anyone got any suggestions of what sealant to use in the inside before welding and outside after?

Ive made a bit more progress over the last week...

Manky old radius arms...

Now nice and clean!

Old roof taken of...took all of 5 mins, as it was only stuck on. *happy*

What was underneath the roof took about 8 hours to grind away...part of the original roof skin! *oh well*

8 hours, lots of blisters and cuts later...
