i have seen one of these at the scrapyard i go to, its a 2227cc strait 6 which back in the day with no mods had 100hp.

i was thinking as it has the gearbox in the sump like the mini it would make for quite a funny project as i recon it would fit in a round nose of a clubman front end. has anyone ever done this before? it could make a very powerful mini.

Is this the princess motor? If so can't you adapt the box to fit the rover v8 and make a transverse v8?

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

bit pants for power,

its essentially 1.5 1750 maxi engines.

also the single carb ones tended to burn out ex valves on pots 1 & 6

If you're doing V8 then you have to break all the rules and put the power to the back wheels

The 2200 E series is almost certainly too long to fit in the engine bay of a Mini anyway.

Who needs turbos when you have a 3.5 litre V8 ?.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Wrong forum but anybody thought of using an early SAAB 900 engine as they are designed to be on top of the gearbox ?

No they are not.

But I was thinking about their ability to take alternative gearboxes (read : mini ones)

Still baffles me why anyone would put such a powerful motor onto such a wank gearbox and stick it in a mini. At least the V8/Princess conversion tried to adress the gearbox issue, even though its still not the best.

Princess boxes would also be welcome ...

I don't know about their availability in UK but in France you'd probably have to steal one of the very few Princess to get hold of it's gearbox, not something I am planning ...

Saab lump are quit affordable and more plentiful than V8's or BMC stuff in general, hence my thinking.

What is more they can be tuned pretty high !
