Now i know there has been some discussions in the past about 11 stud blocks and heads but realistically whats peoples views on the 11th stud above the waterpump?

I've had mine done. Carl did mine and I trust his work, so I have worries about the depth of the holes etc etc.

My opinion is the same as Andy. I'll be going 11 stud. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

I must be lucky as I have drilled and tapped two blocks for 11 stud and I use a lot more than the recommended torque on all the studs - no heag gasket problems so far !. |

You should only torque to 25 ft/lb on the waterpump one. |

You should only torque to 25 ft/lb on the waterpump one. wasn't that because it was not a stud, but a bolt, and not a 3/8 bolt but rather 5/16., hence a lower torque? if yoy fitted a 3/8" stud same as the short front studs, why still only torque it to 25lbft? On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:
Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

Mine is a 3/8" stud and I usually give it at least 50 lb ft - but I like to live on the edge !

Isn't it the 11th stud that goes into the water gallery and you have to use a sealant?

its well proven that 11 studs are not required .......... but if you are a real petrol head and need 11 studs by all means, drill the water pump side to 12.5mm depth and NO More! and tap the thread. Edited by BENROSS on 19th Aug, 2010.

My original block was 11 stud, I had another done which was 9 stud by mistake. On that block I blew the head gasket at 18psi out through the 10th stud would have been. We then converted it back to 11 and it hasnt happened since. Thats my experiences for staying 11 studded (no belt jokes) |

TBH the first time I used 11 studs it was for the bragging rights and, as I have drilled spare heads and blocks I continued doing so.
