anyone done this?? seems to be a big thing with the racers and turbo guys.

cryo then shot peening gear sets.

we shot peen loads of stuff at work, (albiet mostly industrial stuff - thats what we're set up for) and when i finally get round to putting my engine and box together, everything that looks peenable, will be peened!!

afaik, there is no downside, its cheap and it works.......

And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers!

what is shot peening exactly?

Doesn't shot peening affect the surface finish of the gears?

it does at a microscopic level, but has no adverse affect on the gears.

as far as i have been told and info it's working the top layer of the gear to make it stronger and wear better.

putting compound stress in it.

they use it on all the race cars and f1 cars seems to be a big thing.

can't see why it would hurt.
