i stripped my car about two years ago to start my turbo build. the engine is neearly ready to go in.

the bottom rod should be completely straight |

no but i can do. i had the car as a 1 owner (old lady) that had covered 17k. the gearbox was whiny as hell by the time i finished with it around 20k later thanks to cheap oil. however the gearchange on the car was always very crisp, and you didnt have to move the gearstick as far as on the several other minis i have had before/since. would a slight bend have anything to do with this? as i said it may just be one removed from an accident damaged car i have dismantled in the past. i think i will try to straighten. cheers |

The movement you refer to is due to play which occurs due to ware between role pins and the sleeve that links the selector rod (bottom rod) to the gear box. Own the day

Put your good top rod onto the other rod change that has the straight bottom rod I seriously doubt it! |
